The Cup crowns Barça's reaction after the 'Heurtel case': 15-2

Since Heurtel stopped counting for Saras, only two losses. The point guard will play next year for Madrid, the team that Barça beat yesterday.

The last joys of Barcelona in its basketball section had come from the hand of Svetislav Pesic with two Cups under his arm. In both, one at the Gran Canaria Arena and the other at the WiZink Center, French guard Thomas Heurtel was the MVP. Two gifts that did not translate into more titles and, with a large investment made, ended the coach out of the team. Two years after the controversial 2019 Cup, in the same pavilion, the Catalans were successful with another coach, Sarunas Jasikevicius, and without Thomas Heurtel, cut off in January.

Heurtel has an agreement with Real Madrid to play with them from the summer. He agreed to leave with Barça after being separated and after the bitter drink of the trip to Istanbul in which a situation already touched flew through the air. Right now he is without a team, only thinking about the French team, and with the option of ASVEL (without being able to play the Euroleague anymore because the transfer period has expired) as possible to face the Olympic Games. The value that this play has brought to Barça in recent years is impeccable, but it is also true that there have been no cracks since Saras stopped having him.

Although in previous games it was already shown that the relationship was strained and that he would have to vindicate himself with a good game to scratch minutes, Heurtel was no longer in the team's discipline after the match against Efes in Turkey. It is not that he did not play again, it is that he was separated and in what way from the squad. Then he looked for a beneficial way out for both of them, already in the background without disturbing the environment with his teammates because he did not even train with them anymore.

D-Day was on December 22, 2020 and there have only been two defeats in the Barça squad since then: the return of the Euroleague against Efes, precisely, and a hit in Munich against Bayern. The first game since that was, for more curiosity, the Endesa League Classic that Barça played in the Palace against Madrid with a display of Nikola Mirotic.

In the Euroleague, wins against Valencia, Khimki, CSKA, Zenit, Olympiacos and Red Star. In the League, victories against Madrid, Fuenlabrada, Manresa, Gipuzkoa, Murcia and Bilbao without defeats. In the Cup, immaculate against Unicaja, Baskonia and Madrid. In total, 15-2 balance. They can dream.

The step forward of Nick Calathes, superb in the direction, and the signing of Leo Westermann, another Frenchman, have had their effect. With the 'Heurtel case' already only a nightmare (in the absence of seeing how it affects his probable signing for Real Madrid in July), Jasikevicius directs a compensated squad and eager to change the paradigm that for a decade dictate Pablo Laso and his boys.
