Aurelien Paret-Peintre took an invaluable win for the Ag2r Citroen at the LA Marseillaise GP. Both on a personal level, since it means his first professional victory for the 24-year-old Frenchman, and for his team, which scored the first victory among the World Tour teams, which debuted this season. Because, with the uncertainty that the pandemic continues to create on the calendar, there was so much desire to win that the final sprint had to be decided on the photo finish (Boudat, from Arkea, was second and Coquard, from B&B, third). Spanish cycling was also very ambitious, especially a Kern Pharma that saw a great Kiko Galván finish in fourth place after being a leading player in the final kilometers.

Both his team and Caja Rural-RGA have already sneaked runners into the day's escape. The Czech Vojted Repo (Kern Pharma) and the Spanish Barrenechea (Caja Rural) were at the cut of the day that ended 34 km from the end. Just the moment the big names moved. First, Tim Wellens (Lotto) tried to move on one of the final climbs. Also Jesús Herrada (Cofidis) played his cards, although the movements selected the group, there was no escape.

It was the moment when Kiko Galván, a Catalan cyclist from the Lizarte quarry who has already shown signs of his good speed, decided that he could have his chances by seeing himself in a small group of favorites. In the last kilometers he was always in the lead with the best and had to accelerate to neutralize any escape attempts. He must have felt good and he didn't mind spending to gamble on a finish where all eyes were on Trentin (7th at the end). Finally, the 23-year-old cyclist finished fourth, a worthy place in a race in which seven World Tour formations participated and which reinforces his team in a season in which he made his debut in the Professional Continental category
