The Slovenian Tadej Pogacar (UAE Emirates), winner of the 2020 Tour de France, feels "excited" about his imminent debut for the season on the UAE Tour, which runs from Sunday to Saturday the 27th. Pogacar, 22, He will be the leader of a squad that plays at home and that will go out to look for the final victory and the stages, especially with the Colombian sprinter Fernando Gaviria. To do this, the UAE has also chosen Davide Formolo, Jan Polanc, Mikkel Bjerg, Rafal Majka, Maximiliano Richeze and Gaviria.

"It is my first race of the season, so I am excited to be racing again. My preparation has gone very well. We have been on Teide training at altitude for the last weeks with a good group and we have done a training block of quality with a great atmosphere, "says Pogacar.

The winner of the 2020 Tour and third in the 2019 Vuelta, recalled his victory on the UAE Tour, a year ago on top of Jebel Hafeet. "I have great memories of that victory. It will be a slightly different atmosphere this year, but we are all really motivated to race and give it our all in the UAE colors." After the holidays and the period of training in height, Pogacar has spent a long period in the UAE. This 2021, he says, he would love to "win this race." In his program he will defend title in the Tour and will go to La Vuelta.

Joxean Fernández Matxín, team manager, comes to the meeting with a clear ambition: to win. "Our goal will be to pick up where we left off in the race last year: with a win. Be it the general, a stage or both, we are looking for that first win of 2021 and to achieve it at home would be fantastic."

In the country that gives the team its name, Matxín trusts Pogacar and a team for all terrains, especially for the two mountain days. "Pogacar will be our leader but the reality is that he is a squad that adapts to any situation and we will have different cards to play, especially on the climbs. Gaviria also has a good track record here and will be our main man in the sprints," he said.
