Perfumerías and Girona would meet in Cup semis

The draw for the Queen's Cup is already known. Perfumerías and Girona, the two great dominators of Spanish basketball, would meet in the semifinals.


The Perfumerías Avenida de Salamanca and Spar Girona, the two great dominators of Spanish women's basketball in recent years, would meet in a hypothetical semifinal of the Queen's Cup after the draw for quarter-final pairings that was held this Thursday in Valencia, which will host the tournament between March 4 and 7 at the Fuente de San Luis pavilion.

The Salamanca team was assured, for being the leader of the Women's League at the end of the first round, playing one of the crosses on Thursday 4 March and will face Durán Maquinaria Ensino. That same day, Spar Girona and Movistar Estudiantes will meet at the other quarterfinal crossing. The order of the matches has yet to be defined by television broadcasts. The winners of both crosses will meet on Saturday 6 in the first semifinal.

On the other side of the table, Valencia Basket, host of the tournament, has been paired with IDK Euskotren and Lointek Gernika, the last seed, will face Ciudad de La Laguna Tenerife. The winners of these qualifiers will be measured in the second semi-final and the winners of both will play the final on 7.

"It is a day of extraordinary happiness. A little less than a year ago you did not see yourself doing a Queen's Cup but we decided that basketball could not stop and we have had the best travel companions," said Jorge Garbajosa, president of the Federation Spanish.

In addition to highlighting and thanking that all the games will be broadcast on Teledeporte live, he highlighted the support they receive from Valencia Basket and the Trinidad Alfonso Foundation as well as local institutions. "We are here a lot because you make us feel at home," said Garbajosa, who recalled that the draw for the women's Eurobasket will take place on Monday 8, which will also be played in Valencia.

The president of Valencia Basket, Vicente Solá, assured that "being able to enjoy the Copa de la Reina makes us feel proud, hosting this edition and the next is an example that we can continue to activate basketball."

Solá thanked the help of the local institutions and "the bet" of the FEB for his candidacy and said that they will do everything to make it "a real spectacle" even if the circumstances are complicated by the pandemic and stressed that they will put "the health of the players". The president regretted having to suspend the Minicopa and said that they hope that in the next edition the fields of L'Alqueria will be filled "with all those dreams" .

The Valencia councilor for sports, Pilar Bernabé, highlighted the spirit of public-private collaboration "is the best way to get out of complex moments" and pointed out that initiatives like this one "help us to be strong and to get out of this crisis as we want."
