Mavi García thinks of Tokyo as her main objective

The Balearic cyclist from Alé hopes to maintain the good performance line that she offered in 2020 and take a step forward to achieve more results.

Mavi García (Mallorca, 37 years old), national champion in road and time trial, had an outstanding year in 2020 despite the pandemic and fought face to face in some tests with the two great dominators of women's cycling, the Dutch Annemiek van Vleuten and Anna van der Breggen. The Spaniard from (Alé BTC Ljubljana) hopes to maintain that line and dreams of going to Tokyo and winning a medal.

"In the last two years I have learned many things and I think that in this next one I will put into practice details that I did not take into account. I think it could be better. I hope to fight for the top positions in important races", says the Balearic cyclist on Cyclingnews.

The key event will be the Tokyo Games, in which Spain will have two places for the road race and one in the time trial. Garcia hopes to be one of the two selected runners. "For me it would be something very exciting because I have never been to an Olympic Games, and if I can also have a good race there, so much the better," he said.

In case of winning a medal, it would be the first for Spanish women's road cycling in some Games. "That is a lot of ambition and, although I know it is very difficult, you always have to think big, because if not, it will surely not be achieved" .

Mavi García completed the year 2020 with ninth place in the Giro and two stages in the Tour de l'Ardèche, where she was second overall, almost unthinkable results when in 2015 she came to cycling from the duathlon.
