Hulkenberg negotiates to be Aston Martin reserve driver

The German already replaced the Racing Point drivers last season due to their positives for coronavirus and Otmar Szafnauer acknowledges the talks: "We are close."

Nico Hulkenberg is in negotiations with Aston Martin to be its reserve driver for the 2021 season, as recognized by the Silverstone team in the words of Otmar Szafnauer, its team manager: "It could be. But the only thing I can say is that no there is nothing to announce yet, but stay tuned. We are close to Nico and we have conversations with him. It would be great for all of us, "the Romanian told RTL.

If the talks between the driver and the team came to fruition, the German would remain one more year in Formula 1, in which last season he had intermittent appearances replacing the two Racing Point drivers (now Aston Martin) during their losses due to the positives in coronavirus. During the British GP he got into the car of 'Checo' Pérez, with almost no time to acclimatize, and finished the classification in 13th position, one tenth behind the other pink car, Lance Stroll's. He was unable to start the race but for the next round, on the same stage under the name of GP 70 anniversary, the German qualified third and finished the race in seventh place.

For the Eifel GP at Nurburgring, where he replaced Stroll, he did not have time to ride in free practice and was last in qualifying. The race finished eighth and the fans voted him the driver of the day.
