GP La Marseillaise: first race of the year with World Tour

The French race will feature seven formations of the highest category. El Cofidis, with Jesús Herrada and Rubén Fernández. Caja Rural and Kern Pharma, also present.

The French GP La Marseillaise will become this Sunday (14:30, Eurosport Player) the first race of this 2021 that will have World Tour teams, due to the wave of cancellations and postponements (Down Under, Mallorca ...). Specifically, there will be seven formations of the highest category that will take part in the test: the three French (Ag2r, Groupama and Cofidis), the UAE Emirates, Education First, Lotto-Soudal and an Intermarché Wanty will be present that will play their first date since he rose to the elite.

A race that has a broken route that usually prevents massive arrivals and is conducive to escapes. It has never been conquered by a Spanish cyclist, and in this edition Jesús Herrada and Rubén Fernández (both in Cofidis), or the Professional Continental formations of Caja Rural-Seguros RGA and Kern Pharma, also present, could have their opportunities.

As for the rest of the riders, Lotto-Soudal will have contenders like Philippe Gilbert and Tim Wellens. Calmejane and Gallopin (Ag2r), Matteo Trentin (UAE), Pasqualon (Intermarché), Diego Rosa (Arkea), Boasson and Latour (Direct Energie), Hivert and Coquard (B&B) ... are other prominent names to aspire to a victory which, as the calendar is, is worth a lot.
