Ferrari-excellence

Ferrari was presented yesterday without the glamor of other occasions, the pandemic forces modesty, but what these dark times cannot hide is the halo of legend that always drags the Prancing Horse, a mythical team, at the height of the most sports teams legendary, by history and by record. Also by image. Ferrari is like Real Madrid or the Brazilian team in football, like the All Blacks in rugby, like the Lakers or the Celtics in the NBA ... The Scuderia has 1,008 races in Formula 1, with 16 constructors' titles, 15 Drivers' world championships, 238 Grand Prix victories, 773 podiums, 228 pole positions, 254 fastest laps… And award-winning names like Fangio, Surtees, Lauda, Schumacher… The numbers are important. The predecessors, too. But there is something else, above the record, that makes the difference in Maranello. Mattia Binotto, its CEO, calls it "excellence". And that is something that is not measured with numbers, or at least not only with them. The brand obliges. Also the flag of the country. Ferrari is Italy.

Binotto's complete sentence went like this: "We must honor the Ferrari flag, because the Prancing Horse is the symbol of Italian excellence in the world." That is why the inescapable objective is not to repeat the image of last year, that sixth place by manufacturers, far from Mercedes and Red Bull, with only three podiums during the championship and with Charles Leclerc as the best driver in eighth place. It will be difficult to get back to the top in just one year, but the comeback must be started. History compels. And for this he has signed a Spaniard, Carlos Sainz, who will partner with the promising Leclerc. One is 26 years old. The other, 23. A young team as a bet for the future to recover the past. Sainz says he wants "to be a world champion in five years." And Ferrari is the best place to get it.
