Espanyol does not progress

Vicente Moreno hardly changes line-ups - four changes not required in 2021 -, substitutions or style, despite adding a win in five days.

Espanyol-does-not-progress

Espanyol remains on the lifeline that constitutes the area of direct promotion to First Division, although equal to points with Almería -which has a pending match- and five and Mallorca, precisely the next rival of a Vicente Moreno who will visit this Sunday to your former team. And it will do so at its time of greatest uncertainty, due to the irregular background of a parakeet that has only won one of the five games that have been played in 2021, by three defeats and a draw, this Monday, in Lugo (1-1 ). Not even bad results shake his ideology, both in terms of names - if it is a matter of planning, he is not the only one responsible - as well as games.

The obvious example is alignments. In this streak, he hardly makes any changes that are not forced by circumstances, such as the red one that Lluís López saw in Las Palmas or the accumulation of warnings that prevented David López from playing against Rayo Vallecano and Sergi Darder at Anxo Carro. Since the year began, only four tweaks among the headlines have been by Moreno's own criteria. Before Las Palmas, he gave entry to Miguelón Llambrich in place of Óscar Gil and Nico Melamed to the detriment of Óscar Melendo, the latter being his main movement of pieces in these days. And in Girona, he put Leandro Cabrera and removed Fernando Calero, who fell to Lugo for the return of David.

Nor does that jolt that every team immersed in a bump needs seems to break with the substitutions, because in Montilivi and against Rayo there were none until the final ten minutes. And in Lugo he did advance them but the coach was far from exhausting them, despite the adverse result. Perhaps the entrance of Landry Nany Dimata seems like the big green bud for something to change in the coming weeks.

As for the game, Espanyol insists on almost always taking the same path. Defensively, he makes mistakes from the past that seemed forgotten in the first leg of the championship, especially losses in a confused ball out, which are costing him the loss of all the solidity that he had built so well: of his 15 goals against, five have arrived in the last three games. The opponents are taking the measure.

And in attack, it also perseveres if the game contexts twist in two almost unique ways: the inspiration of its talented footballers and the lateral centers, although the squad did not have a clear profile of spikers until now. A whopping 41 put in Montilivi, of which ten found an addressee, and up to 33 served in Lugo, but only four good ones.

However, that kind of turnaround that the team continues to need to reverse its losing streak of results - not, for now, qualifying, due to the income from an outstanding first round - collides with the calendar. With the visit this Sunday to the current leader, Mallorca, which will leave in the air again if it is the right time to revolutionize the line-up. To vary the pattern, not even to surprise some rivals who are beginning to have the measure taken of parrots. Time is there. But in Son Moix you cannot fail.
