Dupont rules the chaos

The Belgian prevailed in a chaotic second stage. The Kern Pharma put Repa in the getaway and continues in its line of adding merits for the invitations.

Dupont-rules-the-chaos

Timothy Dupont prevailed in the chaotic second stage of the Star of Bessèges. Christophe Laporte, fifth, kept the leader's jersey. Two falls marked the arrival. One, three kilometers from the banner, in which the sprinter trains were left in disarray. Another, in the last roundabout, with a collision with fans and those affected even on the opposite side of the road. Nacer Bouhanni came out unscathed from that pile, but again hastily, as on the opening day. It seemed that the European champion, Giacomo Nizzolo, was going to win, but Dupont finished his comeback with success. A 33-year-old Belgian veteran, who in 2016 added 15 goals in the Wanty ranks.

The Kern Pharma, the only participating national team, did not miss the opportunity to put a man on the run, and promising Czech Vojtech Repa, 20, escaped with Delettre, Hurel, Robeet and Picoux. Repa lost three teeth in the hard accident of the first stage… and he wanted to make up for it. Bronze medal in the 2020 European Under-23 (he is the champion of his country in the category), until he was 16 he dedicated himself to ice hockey. A serious ankle injury forced him to change sports and take his bike. The national squad signed him for this season after his good performance in the Tour of Serbia and his victory in the Tour de Malopolska.

This is Kern Pharma's debut as a professional continental team, so they are interested in fighting every chance. Any invitation in times of coronavirus is appreciated, especially if it can mean competing in La Vuelta in 2021. On the first day, Enrique Sanz and Kiko Galván were seen in the lead on the Bellegarde ramp, although they lacked strength when the acceleration occurred by Bouhanni. Pablo Urtasun's runners lined up the peloton in the final kilometers, like this Thursday. But there was no luck between the mishaps and the momentum of bigger-name riders. Friday's menu will offer a broken profile with start and finish in Bessèges.
