The NBA released the first of three waves of fan votes for the All Star Game on Thursday and Kevin Durant ranks as the most supported player in the League with 2.3 million votes, almost 20,000 more than the second: Lebron James. The Brooklyn Nets forward missed all of this last season after breaking his Achilles tendon in Game 5 of the 2019 Finals with the Golden State Warriors. His return (and his fantastic way of coming back) has been one of the great and most beautiful news of this season. Both, LeBron and Durant, would be the captains of their respective teams by leading the global voting.

Luka Doncic, meanwhile, is aiming for his second consecutive All Star Game. He is the second base guard in the West (only two of that position per conference) with 1.3 million votes, about 700,000 less than the great leader, Stephen Curry (Golden State Warriors). Damian Lillard (Portland Trail Blazers) and Ja Morant (Memphis Grizzlies) are third and fourth with 998,853 and 257,743 votes, respectively. The one of the Oregon franchise is the big threat to the Slovenian Dallas Mavericks

This is how the voting isDate and team format

The second will be announced on February 11th and the voting will be closed on February 16th. On the 18th, the five starters of each Conference will be announced: the two backcourts (guards and guards) and the three froncourts (forwards, centers and power forward) with more support from the West and the East. The selection is made by the fans, who represent 50% of the total weight of the votes, the players (25%) and the media (25%). The coaches of the 30 NBA franchises will communicate on February 23 the 14 substitutes, 7 per conference regardless of their position.

The All Star Game will finally be held at the State Farm in Atlanta after the agreement reached between the NBA and the Players Union (NBPA) and not in Indianapolis, which will be enjoyed in 2024. Unlike other editions, this will be reduced by one Weekend just one day away: March 7 is the date chosen for the All-Star Match, which will return to the classic East vs. West format, after three years in which the players have divided into two teams according to the choice of two captains (LeBron James, Stephen Curry and Giannis Antetokounmpo have passed through that role) .

The option of the Rookie Challenge (the duel of first and second year players) seems totally out of the question, but Marc Stein had already announced that the NBA valued finally include, at least, the famous and traditional slam dunk and triple contests for that same day.

The selected date is not accidental, since the NBA had already set a break in the competition between March 5 and 10. Five days to give the players rest and to separate the two differentiated sections of the calendar into which this campaign has been divided to have room for maneuver in the face of postponements and changes forced by the pandemic in a season in which each franchise has passed from all 82 regular Regular Season games to 72.
