Cyclist up to 50

Davide Rebellin signs with an Italian Continental category team where he will race his 29th season as a professional cyclist.

There are famous cases in cycling of cyclists who have remained in the peloton with an impressive 40 years, see cases such as those of Jens Voigt or Alejandro Valverde himself, among others. But can you imagine running to 50? Well, it will be a reality in 2021, and not by just anyone.

It is about Davide Rebellin, a mythical Italian globetrotter who for about half a century (he will complete it on August 9) still intends to continue fighting on a bicycle. The Italian, winner of no less than the three Ardennes Classics (Amstel, Flecha and Liège), has signed a contract to race this year with the Work Group Service Marchiol Vega team, where he will complete his 29th season as a professional cyclist. "It's great to set new goals and help the team leadership after the support they have given me. Cycling is more than a job for me, it is a passion. I see myself in the young riders of the team, in their hopes and aspirations. More than teaching them things, I hope to convey to the whole team the emotions that cycling gives me, "said Rebellin during the presentation with his new squad.

As part of Rebellin's agreement with the Work Service Marchiol team, it will help develop and test the Dynatek bike brand, which is based in Padua, close to the veteran Italian's roots in the Veneto region. All that remains is to wait until March 3 to see Rebellin's debut this year at the Laigueglia Trophy, which will kick off the racing calendar in Italy.
