Contador's Eolo-Kometa will run the Giro d'Italia

The Italian round announced its three invitations to three formations with Italian license, such as the Fundación del Pinteño team. The others: Bardiani and Vini Zabú.

The Eolo Kometa, the Alberto Contador Foundation's professional team project, will run the Giro d'Italia (from 8 to 30 May). An accolade for the training in its first year in the second cycling category, the Pro Continental. The Italian round has relied on this project which, despite its Spanish roots, has an Italian license. In fact, the three places that the organization could choose by hand have gone to national teams, since the other two have been for Bardiani and Vini Zabú.

This is how RCS, the event organizer, has solved this dilemma after the UCI agreed to allow an extra invitation to the big three. Therefore, the race will feature the 19 World Tour teams, Van der Poel's Alpecin with the right to race after being the best Pro Continental of 2020, and the three guests. In the case of the Giro, it was in a similar situation to La Vuelta (which has not yet revealed its 'wild cards'), with four Italian teams aspiring to three places.

Gianni Savio's Androni was the big loser, although he did win a place for Tirreno, Strade Bianche and Milan-San Remo. Neither has Nairo Quintana's Arkea achieved its goal. The French formation, one of the most powerful in the second division, aspired to a place according to the information, although finally the Corsa Rosa has chosen to support national structures. The Tour de France already chose the same path, inviting B&B Hotels, Total Direct Energie and Arkea himself.

Fran Contador: "It's a dream"

Fran Contador, manager of the team, expressed his joy: “I have lived the Giro d'Italia as Alberto's manager and it already seemed to me a shocking and unforgettable experience for everything that revolves around him. And now see you there, with our own team. Since 2013 we have been working hard to achieve this. It is a dream come true behind which there is a lot of effort and a lot of sacrifice. ”
