Chris Froome returns to the Emirates to lead Israel

The four-time Tour de France champion will make his competitive debut for the Israeli team on the UAE Tour. "It is the beginning of an exciting adventure," he said.

The British Chris Froome, four times winner of the Tour de France and double of the Vuelta, has been confirmed as leader of the Israel Start-Up Nation for the Tour of the UAE that will be held from next Sunday until the 27th, for which it will debut the jersey of his new formation.

The 35-year-old Kenyan-born rider will test his form in the race in which he also debuted in the 2020 season, after a serious injury suffered at the Dauphiné in 2019.

Froome, also a winner of the Giro d'Italia, will see the effects of his recent concentration in California and will draw new conclusions on the idea of recovering a level much higher than last season and allowing him to once again opt for his fifth Tour de France.

"I start the 2021 season with great enthusiasm, it will be my first race with the Israel Start-Up Nation and the beginning of an exciting new adventure for me. I can't wait to race with my new teammates and test my legs after a productive winter, "says Froome in a team statement.

The expectations of the Israeli team with maximums with one of the runners in history with the big three in his record. The team's managing director, Kjell Carlstrom, was eager to see the British rider return to racing.

"Considering that this is Chris' first race after a period of training and rehabilitation, we hope that he will use the UAE Tour as a mainstay to further develop his form, in anticipation of the big goals that await him."

The Israeli line-up for the UAE Tour will consist of Chris Froome, André Greipel, Rick Zabel, Omer Goldstein, Matthias Brändle, Ben Hermans and Alex Dowsett.
