Billie Jean King Cup Finals in Hungary postponed

The old Federation Cup, which was to be held from April 13 to 18 in Budapest, has been delayed to the end of the year due to the pandemic.

The Billie Jean King Cup, formerly the Federation Cup, has been delayed to the end of the year due to the Covid pandemic. The national team tournament, which was to be held between April 13 and 18 in Budapest, has been postponed to the end of the year, without a specific date, as confirmed by the International Tennis Federation (ITF, for its acronym) in a statement.

The tournament, which changed its format to adapt to the new times as the Davis Cup already did, had to be suspended in 2020. "Work has been carried out with the health authorities to prepare the tournament for April and they have been taken into account different scenarios such as being able to play behind closed doors. However, due to the uncertainty that still exists about the virus, it is impossible to hold a global team competition of this scale, indoors, in Budapest on those dates, "said the ITF.

This competition will bring together twelve teams, including Spain, who will fight for a week to become world champions, with a total of more than 60 athletes, plus coaching staff, referees and workers. "The decision to postpone the competition is to protect the health and safety of all participants," added the ITF.
