Albon will race the DTM and will be Red Bull's reserve in F1

The Thai will participate in the German touring car championship in a 2020 Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo in the colors of AlphaTauri.

Thai Alexander Albon will combine his participation in the DTM next season with his role as reserve driver for the Red Bull Formula 1 team, in which he lost his starting status with the arrival of Mexican Sergio Pérez from Racing Point.

The Red Bull team confirmed on Tuesday that Albon will contest the German Touring Car Championship with a 2020 Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo under the colors of AlphaTauri.

"The DTM is a great series, with highly talented drivers and exciting races," commented Albon.

"I have only driven a 'tin roof' once and they are really different than single seaters. There is much less downforce and the tires are very different so a different riding style is required. It will take a little time. get used to it, but I look forward to this new challenge when it becomes available, given my existing Formula 1 commitments, "he stated.

The DTM season will begin at Monza on June 19 and 20, although Red Bull has not confirmed which rounds Albon will contest.

The Thai has given up his seat in the Red Bull Formula 1 team to 'Checo' Pérez after a season and a half full of ups and downs.
