The Tour of Poland, sporting event of the year in the country despite Jakobsen's accident

The Polish round organization was honored at the 2020 Polish Sports Personalities Awards despite the serious fall of the Dutch cyclist.

The Tour of Poland has been honored with the award for the sporting event of the year 2020 at the 2020 Polish Sports Personalities Awards presented by Przeglad Sportowy and Polish television Polsat.

Pzeglad Sportowy stresses that "Czeslaw Lang (race director) and his team were the pioneers. The Tour of Poland took on the challenge of organizing the first stage event of the UCI World Tour after the stoppage caused by the pandemic. The whole world could see if the peloton, together with the cars and staff, could run in the new reality, full of restrictions and new rules. They did it and they set a precedent and gave hope that there is a place for sport in this new world. "

However, the award for the Tour of Poland has not been without controversy since the first stage of the Polish round saw one of the most dramatic moments of the 2020 cycling season. In the first stage of the race, with an end in Katowice, Dylan Groenewegen closed out Fabio Jakobsen during the sprint, who slammed into the billboards and several of them scattered across the road from the impact, causing more runners to fall. Jakobsen was admitted to the ICU for injuries to his jaw and face and from which he is still recovering.

Despite the Jakobsen incident, the Polish race also left us with a beautiful sports scene with Remco Evenepoel as the main protagonist, since the young Belgian cyclist starred in an exhibition to win the fourth stage that he dedicated to his partner Fabio Jakobsen, in addition to winning the classification career general
