Liverpool collapse in 2021

Barnes causes Liverpool's first league defeat at Anfield since April 2017. Alisson commits a penalty and the 'reds' are unable to react.

Three Premier League games in 2021, zero goals for Liverpool. The streak is even greater if we count from a little further back: in the last five games they have not won any, with three draws in between and only one goal in favor. In total, more than seven hours without scoring a goal.

Jürgen Klopp's men got the gunpowder wet against rivals with whom they did not expect to score points. They were left against West Brom (1-1), against Newcastle (0-0) and also with Southampton (1-0), in addition to the draw against a direct rival such as Manchester United (0-0).

And the worst had not yet come. Tonight, against Burnley, in addition to not scoring, they have also received one, in the 82nd, from a penalty, converted by Ashley Barnes, who has endorsed another defeat and, above all, takes them away unexpectedly from the rest title candidates

The 'reds' are already fourth but are six points behind the head, although City can go to seven if they win their pending match. It is Liverpool's first league loss at Anfield since April 2017. Substitutes Salah and Firmino came to the rescue but failed to beat Nick Pope.

Analysts find no answers to the collapse: "Liverpool seem like a team out of shape and without confidence," said Jamie Carragher.
