Leganés dismisses Martí and focuses on Garitano to replace him

The club communicated its decision to the Mallorcan coach late in the afternoon. The hope is that the new coach will lead the session tomorrow Wednesday.

The Leganés has fired José Luis Martí late in the afternoon. The club, after slowing down its decision yesterday, has made the decision early in the afternoon. The poor results (a victory in the last seven days) have led to a step that was taken for sure on Sunday, but has matured more than expected. Although it is not official yet, the club is expected to communicate it before the end of the night.

The intention of Leganés is that tomorrow the one who will be his replacement can start training after the Blue and Whites' first team had two days off after losing 2-1 to Las Palmas. The first favorite and maximum candidate is Asier Garitano, a coach who led the pepineros from Second B to First and who brings together the consensus of the offices and the stands of Butarque.

If there is nothing new, Leganés does not expect there to be a transition period as happened, for example, last season with the resignation of Pellegrino. When the Argentine left and resigned, Luis Cembranos, then the subsidiary's coach, led the first squad during the two weeks established by the regulations until the replacement in extremis of Javier Aguirre was found. This time the wish is for the new coach to sit on the bench against Lugo, on Monday, February 1.

Martí's departure marks the first dismissal of a coach at Leganés since 2012. The Majorcan arrived last summer backed by his fame as a coach who had brought projects closer to promotion, although he had never achieved it. His overall results after a discreet first round (seven defeats in 21 games) left him touched. That and the style of a team that so far this year has not proven to be one of the most powerful squads in Segunda. Martí leaves leaving the sixth-placed team, eleven from direct promotion and tied on points with seventh, the area outside the playoffs.
