Jovane Cabral scores a double and Sporting eliminates Porto

The Lisbon club is in the final of the Portuguese League Cup thanks to two goals from the young forward from Cape Verde, who came back from a 0-1 from Dragão.

Jovane Cabral roared yesterday in Leiria and led Sporting's comeback against Porto in the first semifinal of the Portuguese League Cup. The young forward, 22, scored two goals in eight minutes, the second in 94 ', and was the hero of the classification. The rival will be Benfica or Braga, who face each other in the other semifinal.

The previous match was involved in much controversy when Sporting announced its intention to link Nuno Mendes and Andraz Sporar, who had been removed last week due to coronavirus but in the end their tests were identified as false positives. Porto accused Sporting of "undermining public health" and threatened not to play the match. The two footballers in the end were not related by the capital club and the Dragão entered the field, although without three starters, Sérgio Oliveira, Otávio and Luis Díaz, who tested positive for COVID-19 and are in quarantine.

The duel started slowly, with the rivals very conservative and the duel of possession in the center of the field hard to prepare. Pedro Gonçalves had the first chance of the match at 30 '. In an individual play, he started in the middle, got rid of two defenders and, from the edge of the area, shot powerfully, brushing against Diogo Costa's crossbar. Sporting kept pressing and Nuno Santos was about to score after a deep pass from Tiago Tomás that Costa managed to get ahead in the last second.

As Sporting dominated the game, Porto had the best chance of the game in a game against at 40 '. Neto Lopes crossed for Marega who finished off between two centrals and the ball exploded capriciously against Adán's left post.

Porto came back more plugged for the second half and almost opened the scoring in the 48th minute. Marega made a great play and crossed perfect for Mateus Uribe who, almost in the small area, wasted an incredible opportunity, finishing well over the crossbar.

The game was again even and very fought in the middle of the field, with a lot of tension and few opportunities. Until in 73 'Felipe Anderson avoided what seemed like a sure goal from Sporting. Two Porto players made a mistake on the edge of the opponent's area and lost the ball. Faced with the misplaced defense, Nuno Santos sped off against goalkeeper Diogo Costa who left the area in despair but, in the last second, the Brazilian midfielder, who arrived last summer from West Ham, managed to steal the ball from the rival, saving Porto.

An action that seemed transcendental, since five minutes later Marega managed to score 0-1 for Dragão. The Franco-Malian forward started on an individual play from near the center of the field. He overcame two rivals and, from the entrance of the area, finished off placed with his left, catching Adán and the entire Sporting defense on the counterfoot. The ball entered slowly, bouncing, hitting the left post of the Atlético de Madrid exporter, who could do nothing.

When it seemed that Porto was with a foot and a half in the final, in the 87th minute, Jovane Cabral achieved the equalizer with a shot very similar to that of Iñaki Williams, who gave the title of the Spanish Super Cup to Athletic. The Cape Verde striker dominated a rejected ball in the left corner of the Costa area and finished across, perfect and into the squad, to make the 1-1.

Sporting's hero would shine again in the 95th minute, when the teams were already preparing for the penalty shootout. In a counterattack down the left, the 22-year-old started diagonally, overtaking Mbemba and finished across the field, low, out of Costa's reach. Comeback and party for the capital club, which also leads the league this season.
