"I have shown that Van der Poel and Van Aert are beatable"

The Danish, world champion in 2019, will focus on the classic calendar this year, with the Belgian and the Dutch as the main rivals.

Mads Pedersen put the heavy burden of wearing the World Champion's rainbow jersey on Julian Alaphilippe's shoulders. After a discreet year, and marked to a large extent by a calendar depleted by the pandemic, the Dane intends to increase his level of results in a 2021 season where the classics will occupy a good part of his preparation.

"If I had to choose a race to win this year, I would like to win the World Championship back. It was a shame that I couldn't show my children the photos of the Roubaix track with the rainbow on; that was the hardest part of not racing all races last year ", admitted Pedersen in statements to the Cyclingnews portal.

For those spring races, the 2019 world champion is clear that he will have two great rivals: Mathieu van der Poel and Wout van Aert. Despite being the great dominators in this type of event, Pedersen says he feels confident as he demonstrated in the last Gent-Wevelgem that both are beatable: "They are not unbeatable. I have already shown that they are beatable. I cannot win them all the time, by just like they can't beat all the time. But I know I can beat them, and that's enough for me. "

And Pedersen's plans are not there, as in the future he would also like to try the challenge of winning the green jersey in the Tour de France, an award usually reserved for the best sprinters. "Now I see the possibility of doing it. One day, if the Tour was perfect for that and it suits me well, why not? It would be nice to have the green jersey hanging on the wall when I stop riding my bike."
