El Eolo de Contador begins his adventure as a Pro Team

The team, now with an Italian license, wants to run the Valencia Grand Prix (January 24) and the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana (February 3-7).

The new UCI Pro Team Eolo-Kometa Cycling Team, from the Alberto Contador Foundation, has presented itself with great enthusiasm and ready to face a long calendar with a squad made up of 20 riders of five nationalities (Italy, Spain, United Kingdom, Hungary and Portugal) with a mean age of 25.3 years.

Alberto Contador, president of the Foundation, commented on the importance of launching a project that will soon be reflected on the roads, with its debut on January 24 at the Valencia Grand Prix. "It is a very special day because this project takes a step forward and enters a very demanding category like the Pro Team, with a much broader schedule and even stronger competition," he said.

The former Madrid champion, the only Spanish cyclist with the big three in his record, highlighted "the young squad, with experienced veterans and promising talents" that allows him to be convinced that "they are going to give him a lot of joys". "We were born as a Pro Team, but we want to continue growing and we will work very hard every day to achieve it," Contador said during the online press conference, held in Busto Arsizio (Italy) .

Ivan Basso, Eolo-Kometa Sporting Director, highlighted the new dimension of the Italian-licensed team. "We have been working on this project for three years and now it takes another dimension, another speed, another hope. I am very proud to have one more training in Italy entering great cycling, with the majority of Italian riders." The first races in which the team will compete are the Clàssica Comunitat Valenciana 1969 - Gran Premio Valencia (January 24) and the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana (February 3-7). The first commitment in Italy will be at the Laigueglia Trophy, on March 3.
