Brake to Evenepoel's recovery: the Giro, in doubt

Deceuninck manager Lefevere explained that the 20-year-old Belgian will not ride a bike for three weeks and that they will not risk their season.

Remco Evenepoel will probably have to stay away from the bike for the next three weeks, as confirmed by Pat Lefevere, manager of Deceuninck, in statements to De Tribune, Radio 1 in Belgium: “We are not going to make the same mistake of rushing with him. If he is not in perfect condition, he will not ride his bike until at least February 8, in three weeks, and just three months before the Giro d'Italia. ”

The Corsa Rosa, Evenepoel's (20-year-old) target in 2020 before fracturing his pelvis in a fall in the Giro de Lombardia, is questioned in 2021: “Things don't look black, not even gray yet, but not we will advance events. If all goes well, we will see if he should participate in the Giro. If it seems inappropriate to us, it will not compete. We have a staff with sufficient resources so as not to risk anyone's health. ”

Lefevere assured that they will not take any hasty action or try to speed up the deadlines: “Apparently, the bone growth was not as fast as we all thought. I was in pain, but Remco believed it was part of the rehab. " A new medical check-up, carried out this Monday, extended the recovery period a little more: "In the Herentals hospital it was found that it is still not 100%, so we will have patience" .
