Sitting next to her co-pilot, Francois Cazalet, with a huge look of sadness. This is how Cristina Gutiérrez recorded a video to tell us what we did not want to hear, that she was leaving due to a breakdown: "We have started the link for the second marathon stage, the gearbox on the highway has broken and we cannot repair ... That nothing, we have to leave. Tomorrow we will re-engage I suppose and we are very sad because it was being a good Dakar. Thank you for the support you have given us, but ... this far. "

He did not even have a chance to start the special. The gearbox failed directly on the long 226-kilometer link section that had to be covered from the Sakaka bivouac in order to go out to stage eight. A pity because the Burgos was managing to stand out in the side by side category in which it debuted. She won the inaugural stage, becoming the first woman to achieve a Dakar victory since Jutta Kleinschmidt did so in 2005. And, although she was two hours behind the leader, she was still in the Top 10 and aspired to stand out at some more stage.

"You have to get the positive side of things and be happy with the pace of the race that we have taken", added Cristina trying to see the good part. As he says, he will try to rejoin the race at the Dakar Experience, a second chance for those who drop out to continue enjoying the race but out of competition. It will do so with the aim of helping the Red Bull team as much as possible, which has one of its pilots, Seth Quintero, second less than ten minutes behind the leader Austin Jones.
