The champion of the Spanish Under-23 Cup Jordi López will race at Kern Pharma

The Catalan cyclist from the Lizarte team will make the leap to professionals with Kern Pharma. It is the second signing of the team after Raúl García Pierna, who also comes from Lizarte.

The Catalan cyclist Jordi López (1998, Badalona), winner last Sunday after the Valenciaga Memorial of the Spanish Sub'23 Cup with the Lizarte jersey, will fulfill his childhood wish to "be a professional cyclist", since next season will move on to the Continental Kern Pharma team.

When Jordi López was asked at the age of five what he wanted to be when he grew up, he had no doubts: "I want to be a cyclist," he said. That dream has already become a reality, since it is the second signing for 2021 of the team led by Manolo Azcona and Juanjo Oroz after Raúl García Pierna, who also promotes from the amateur team of the Galibier Sports Association, Lizarte.

The Badalonese cyclist joined the Lizarte Team four seasons ago from Huesca La Magia of the Barbastro Cycling Club, the same youth team in which Marc Soler, Sergio Samitier, Jaime Castrillo and Roger Adrià were formed, among many other professionals.

Dressed in 'pink' has registered a gradual progression, showing consistency and speed to play teamwork and collect victories and positions of honor over the years.

The Catalan started this season with the Spanish Cup as a major goal and managed to qualify 3rd, 6th, 4th and 9th of four of his runs, which earned him the U23 title of the same.

Its evolution has been meteoric, and the technicians value its ability to progress year after year.

"When I came to the Lizarte Team I was a child. I felt quite insecure about my possibilities as a runner. With time, patience, work and maturity I have been able to evolve. The physical and the psychological have gone hand in hand", says the Badalonese cyclist .

On a psychological level, Jordi López feels "a much more solid person than four years ago. Winning the U23 Spanish Cup has been a reward for all the work of this amateur stage, and a demonstration that I can set big goals for myself and fulfill them ".

Now, the panorama will be different, he will have to race in the professional category, at a level that he has already tried in some races.

"Making the leap to professionals with the Kern Pharma Team is fantastic because I will be able to continue growing within the same family, together with the people who have bet on me since I became juniors" .

López ran the Occitania Route and the Villafranca-Ordiziako Klasika Route with "pros", tests that helped him feel new sensations.

"I faced the Occitania Route with a bit of fear, with many doubts about whether I would be able to give the level, but I put on the number and saw that I was one more in the peloton. That's where I lost my fear. have a fairly quick adaptation to professionalism and I will be able to contribute things to the Kern Pharma Team very soon ".

Jordi López would like to transfer the cyclist who has been in sub'23 to the professional field.

"I want to become a reliable rider on any terrain and any race, a team cyclist with the ability to finish when the time comes. Always add, whether working or competing. I would like to look like Michal Kwiatkowski or Jonathan Castroviejo, cyclists capable of being with the best in any circumstance, trusted men for any teammate and any team ".

His favorite race, for the moment, is the Volta a Catalunya.

"It is the one that I have seen since I was little at home, the one that has made me dream of one day being a professional cyclist" .
