Test in the Vuelta: two positives in staff, none in cyclists

The two affected are Bahrain-McLaren and Sunweb staff members. Of those made to runners there are no positives. Those who came from the Tour of Flanders remain.

The Vuelta 2020 has not found positive among the cyclists participating in the first 498 tests that were carried out this Monday, but two among the staff, specifically a member of the Sunweb staff and another from Bahrain-McLaren, who will be replaced by another assistant from the team. The two infected people are already isolated according to the protocol of the race and the UCI. These are the results of the controls that have been carried out upon the arrival of the cyclists at a test center set up in Irún and where the main teams paraded. The results of the last stragglers, the majority from the Tour of Flanders, remain to be known.

The main concern of the race is that the central bubble, called level 1, to which the runners and teams belong, remains intact, so contact with the outside, the media and even members of the organization is being limited as much as possible . The objective of this test is that when the race begins this Tuesday the peloton is completely healthy, which will be verified in a mobile laboratory that accompanies the test, and with exhaustive examinations on rest days.

From La Vuelta it has been ensured that they possibly carry out the strictest protocol that has now been seen in the calendar and achieve that, as in the Tour, to arrive without positive athletes until the end. At the Giro, that was not achieved and led to the abandonment of two entire teams, Jumbo-Visma and Mitchelton-Scott, present in the Spanish round.
