End of drought. Peter Sagan savored the honeys of victory again after more than a year without doing so (he had not won since July 2019 in the Tour de France) and entered the winners' club in the three grand tours. He made his solo debut at the Giro, in his first appearance, thanks to a sensational attack from the escape on the hard slopes at the end of the day.

"Finally I won with my style, winning and giving a show. We went on the run with two Movistar and two INEOS, but I was lucky to have good legs today and I was able to control everyone on the break", explained the Slovak for Italian television at the end of the stage.

"I am very happy for the reunion with the victories, I had been trying since we started the season at Strade Bianche, and then at San Remo, the Tour de France .... I was on the podium or in the top five for a long time , but my last victory was last year on the Tour. It was a long time ago. I did not plan to leave and arrive alone. I had to settle for being second, third, fourth ... I thought not to try again, and now victory is coming. I'm very happy, "added the Bora Hansgrohe rider.

Almeida: "I managed a few seconds, it was a good day"

Portuguese Joao Almeida (Deceuninck Quick Step), the pink jersey of the Giro d'Italia, ended up satisfied with a transition stage in which at the end an acceleration allowed him to get 4 bonus seconds that allowed him to increase advantage in the general.

"The team also did a perfect job. In the end I saw the opportunity to attack and managed to win a few bonus seconds at the finish line. Overall it was a good day," he confessed.

The 22-year-old Portuguese cyclist and leader since the third day, had renewed feelings after the first day of rest. "After the rest day I really felt recovered. I knew I had good legs, so at least I was able to follow the rivals. In the end it was very good for me and tomorrow will be another day." // EFE
