Otaegui is on display at the legendary St. Andrews

The Guipuzcoan signed a first day of ten under par and is the solo leader, leading his pursuers by three strokes.

Spanish Adrián Otaegui signed this Thursday a spectacular card of 62 strokes (-10) that allows him to be the first leader of the Scottish Championship, a tournament on the European golf circuit that runs until Sunday at the historic Saint Andrews course.

The Gipuzkoan was exhibited on the first day with a round of ten birdies without failure. Otaegui leads Matthew Wallace and Bryce Easton by three shots, Padraig Harringotn, Aaron Rai, Chris Paisley and Garrick Porteous by four shots and a large group that includes Lee Westwood and another Spaniard from Madrid by five. Gonzalo Fernández Castaño.

Adrián Otaegui, 27, was seeded. He started with three birdies in a row between 1 and 3 and added another one at 7 to finish the top nine at -4. In the nine seconds he started again with three birdies (10 to 12) and finished his turn with three more birdies at 15, 17 and 18. Otaegui, 27, is pursuing his third title on the continental circuit after those achieved in 2017 at the Paul Lawrie Match Play and 2018 at the Belgian Kockout.

Gonzalo Fernández Castaño sealed a round with seven birdies, five of them consecutive between holes 3 and 7, by two bogeys at 10 and 13, his only two blots.
