Arnaud Démare's Poker

The French sprinter, far superior to the rest, consolidates the Giro cycling jersey with his fourth win in this edition, on the 14th of the season.

Arnaud Démare is intractable this season. He has 14 wins, more than anyone in the atypical 2020, and four stages in the Giro. Enjoy an extraordinary moment and an overturned Groupama. In each victory it is a pleasure to see how Konovalovas and Guarnieri tuck, position and throw in the final meters. The French thus consolidates the cyclamen jersey and increases his income over Peter Sagan. However, the broken days and the mountains favor the interests of the Slovak, who is much more off-road. Until Milan, perhaps there is only another occasion of massive arrival, in Asti.

A motorcycle threw Elia Viviani into a roundabout just over 30 kilometers from the finish line. It was just a scare, enough for the Italian to get hot in the chase and add a new blow to the body and the spirit in a crossed Giro (with previous falls and away from Démare in the volatas). Simone Consonni, one of his squires, entered the fight and finished fourth. Viviani was given the honor as the last rider with four targets in the same Corsa Rosa, in 2018. Fernando Gaviria, author of another four in 2017, is far from his maximum level.

The peloton made it through the first half of the Giro with a flat 11th day between Porto Sant'Elpidio and Rimini, one of the most touristic areas on the Adriatic coast. It seemed like easy, sprinting terrain, but Sander Armée insisted on making things difficult for the wolves that were hounding him. The Belgian, the last survivor of a breakout formed originally together with Bais, Mazzucco, Romano and Frapporti, gave up in his attempt six km from the end. Armée knows what it is to win in a big one with a pulse to the group: Santo Toribio de Liébana's triumph in the 2017 Vuelta was scored. Joao Almeida lived a quiet stage and added another day in pink.
