Antunes wins the Volta a Portugal with the Galician Veloso second

The one from W52-FC Porto led for most of the race. Galician Gustavo Veloso, winner of the final time trial, finished second overall.


The Portuguese Amaro Antunes (W52-FC Porto) emerged today as the winner of the Volta a Portugal, in which the Spanish Gustavo Veloso (W52-FC Porto) finished in second place and the Portuguese Frederico Figueiredo (Tavira) in third. Antunes, who led the general classification in most stages, concluded the last test, a 17.7-kilometer time trial in Lisbon, with a time of 0:20:05, the seventh best time.

The best in the event was Veloso, with 00:21:34 -a time that allowed him to overtake Figueiredo in the general- followed by Portuguese António Carvalho (Efapel), and Frenchman Anthony Delaplace (Team Arkéa-Samsic). A Spaniard entered the top 10: Alejandro Marque (Tavira), who was sixth. The general concluded with Antunes as the leader, followed by Veloso, 42 seconds, and Figueiredo 52 seconds.
