Van Aert: "Today was a great day, I am proud"

The Belgian signed his second stage win on this Tour and his third on the Jumbo-Visma. "I did a perfect sprint," he admitted.

Wout van Aert took victory in the seventh stage of the 2020 Tour de France, his second personal triumph in this edition and the third of the Jumbo-Visma, without a doubt, brutal numbers for the partnership between the Belgian and the Dutch team.

"I'm really proud. It was an impressive stage for the Bora from the beginning. At the end I had a lot of energy. It was a good day for the team and also for the general classification. I think I did a perfect sprint," summed up the Belgian for the organization of the race.

Van Aert acknowledged that his main objective was not the stage, but to be close to his leader, Primoz Roglic: "I was able to save the fans well and Roglic has been in the lead. We were aware that there were two favorites off the hook (for Landa and Pogacar) So today has been a great day. I have been watching Roglic all day but I could not miss this opportunity. I think they launched the sprint a bit early. "
