Today the first of the four days of competition that will take place at the World Cup in Imola (Italy) with the women's time trial (from 2:40 pm) will be held. Unlike other editions, due to the situation with COVID-19 and after having found a different venue in a short month due to the pandemic (the World Cup was going to be initially in Switzerland), there will only be time trials and road tests, both in male and female modalities, eliminating events such as junior, U-23 and mixed relays from the program.

The women's time trial opens this World Cup event on a circuit in which the plains abound in its 31.7 kilometers of route. There will be two Spanish women in the test: Sara Martín (Sopela) and Lourdes Oyarbide (Movistar). Mavi García, who won gold at the Nationals last August ahead of Sara (2nd) and Lourdes (4th), will only run the road event. "I think they can make a good time. We know the level we have compared to the opponents, but we will improve step by step," says coach Gema Pascual.

Among those rivals will not be Van Vleuten, injured with a broken wrist at the Giro Rosa last week, although she does not rule out being on Saturday and defending her title of world champion. In case of repeating triumph in Italy, he would wear the rainbow jersey next season in the ranks of Movistar. "Every time I have less pain. On Friday I will make the decision to run or not." The American Chloe Dygert, current champion, and the Dutch Anna Van der Breggen, main favorites to win gold today.
