The 2020 Tour enters the Pyrenees with two atypical days, without a high finish. Mikel Landa lost 1:21 in the Lavaur fans, like Tadej Pogacar. Slovenian and Alava have no choice but to go on the attack to cut differences with their rivals. Pello Bilbao, Landa's squire in Bahrain, does not want the shipwreck of the seventh stage to become a reason to make hasty decisions: "We will see what happens in the two days of the Pyrenees, there is still a long Tour to go and we cannot accelerate afterwards of a bad afternoon ". Landa warned at the top of Mont Aigoual that the declining resolutions would force the favorites to take more risks: "The design of the days will favor more offensive tactics, surely movements will occur" .

Enric Mas, 13th and best Spaniard in the classification, 22 seconds behind Adam Yates, believes that in the Pyrenean stages "there will be more opportunities to look for beautiful things". The Spaniard had a "good night" and does not suffer any consequences of the fall on the way to Mont Aigoual: "I feel fine, in good condition and wanting to compete." A sprint in a small group would not hurt Alejandro Valverde: "Any occasion that arises, we will try to move forward, of course, but the important thing is to help Enric finish at the top of the general classification" .

Egan Bernal, defending champion, finished "very happy" after saving the day of the fans: "There are no more reliable cyclists than those of Ineos when things get complicated. My teammates led me at the front of the peloton at all times" . For the Pyrenees, Bernal will remain "on the lookout": "It will be checked on the fly whether it is convenient for us to adopt a more aggressive tactic, for now we are working wonderfully and the objective is still to enter the third week in the fight for the yellow ".

That garment is worn by Adam Yates, although Primoz Roglic behaves like the patron of the Gallic round. The Briton believes that he should "hold out with the hopefuls and leave the Pyrenees as the leader." For his part, Roglic can't wait to take command of the Tour: "We want to control and impose our terms on the rest of the adversaries" .
