Sakkari pulls out muscle and kills Anisimova in 55 minutes

Greek Maria Sakkari swept America's teenager Amanda Anisimova (6-3, 6-1) with just eight unforced errors. Mertens, Muchova and Pironkova advance.

Maria Sakkari (15th favorite) shone at the premiere of the sixth day of competition of the US Open, the last of the third round, with an undeniable triumph over the 19-year-old American Amanda Anisimova, whom she won 6-3 and 6-1 in only 55 minutes. It was the third shortest match for the women's team so far this tournament. The Greek, who made just eight unforced errors, took advantage of those of her rival (28) to dominate at all times thanks to her powerful physique.

In the round of 16, a round that she reaches for the second time in eight attempts at Grand Slams, Sakkari, a player in an upward progression, will meet Sloane Stephens or Serena Williams on Monday, whom she won just a few days ago at Western & Southern Open also played in New York.

Elise Mertens (16th), did not suffer excessively to overcome the 19-year-old American and 124th in the ranking Cathy McNally, whom she beat 7-5 and 61. With a neat match, few errors and good serve percentages, the Belgian , who has 22 victories in 2020 (the one that tied the most with Rybakina), went easy to the second round and will be seen with Jabeur or Kenin. Karolina Muchova (20th) remains firm in the championship, although she had a bad time against the Romanian Cirstea, whom she won with some trouble 6-3, 2-6 and 7-6 (7). The Czech reaches the eighth of a Slam for the second time in her career (she did it last year at WImbledon) and there she will meet Azarenka or Swiatek. Donna Vekic (18th) was surprised by the Bulgarian Tsvetana Pironkova, as had happened to Muguruza on Thursday, who has not lost a set so far this tournament, and won by a crushing 6-4 and 6-1. She had not played for three years to be a mother and is already in the fourth round, where she will see Keys or Cornet.
