Peters: "It's crazy to win a stage on my Tour debut"

The French Ag2r has two victories as a professional: a mountain day in the 2019 Giro (Anterselva) and the first in the Pyrenees of the 2020 Tour.

Except for the 2018 Vuelta (he was fourth on the Luintra day), Nans Peters counts his debuts in the majors by victories. The Ag2r Frenchman debuted his record as a professional in the 2019 Giro. Born 26 years ago in Grenoble, capital of the French Alps, he practiced cross-country skiing as a kid. That arrival was in Anterselva, one of the biathlon temples, and the climber had “an extra motivation to win”. Again from the getaway, Peters culminated his Pyrenean adventure in Loudenvielle again with authority and alone. “Winning a stage in my first time on the Tour. What a madness! It is a dream come true ”. And he is not exaggerating, the only two triumphs of his record could not have more brilliance.

From behind, the leader of his team, Romain Bardet, caught the rest of the favorites for a couple of seconds: “We know that Romain is feeling magnificent at a time. We will try to help him get back on the podium in Paris ”. Bardet, second in the Tour in 2016 and third in 2017, fell in Balès, but did not suffer: “I feel strongly in my legs, with an open race that favors me, in which very important things will be achieved if you act with courage, as Pogacar demonstrated. ”
