Obradoiro premieres leadership against a Fuenla lacking filming

In the first match played of the three postponed by the coronavirus, both teams showed a lack of filming, but the locals become leaders.

The Monbus Obradoiro debuted this Sunday with victory in the Endesa League after beating Urbas Fuenlabrada on the first day by 101-82 in a match played at the Multiusos Fontes do Sar without an audience and between strict security measures against covid-19 . In tonight's clash, scheduled for yesterday but postponed after a false positive from one of the local players, the two teams showed the need for filming to face this new season after, after six months without competition, both have started the league with numerous new faces and many casualties from the previous year.

On this occasion, an Obradoiro with a more defined identity emerged victorious from the contest and who dominated the paint from the hand of Lithuanian center Laurynas Birutis, author of 27 points and 11 rebounds. Birutis was the key man for the locals in a first quarter of a happy game rhythm, with constant exchanges of baskets, and in which Fuenlabrada was not able to get off the ground despite the scoring facility of its outside players.

Leonardo Meindl was the leader of the visiting team in the offensive facet and the main responsible for the slight advantage with which they concluded the first quarter (22-26), in which he scored up to twelve points. Paco García's men left with nine goals in the middle of the second quarter (35-44), spurred on by Marc García's brilliant appearance in the game, although the Obradoirista reaction was immediate with a 13-0 run which helped them to overcome the crash. A tray in transition by Obina Emegano pulled Fuenlabrada out of the offensive jam in which it was, although it was too late to prevent Obradoiro from reaching the break (50-46) .

The general trend of the match did not change in the first minutes of the second half and the equality and the score were kept tight, since the visitors found easy points in penetration situations and medium-distance shots that contributed to alleviate the open water path by Birutis in his painting. Again Emegano, this time by scoring a two plus one, was able to tie the game for Fuenlabrada at the end of the third quarter (69-69) .

From the personnel line, Siim-Sander Vene gave his team the first lead in the entire second half (69-70), immediately answered by a scoring burst from Obradoiro with long-distance shots from Kassius Robertson and Alex Súarez that left them six up with five minutes to go (82-76). With Fuenlabrada down in the physical aspect, a basket to table by Birutis after a good individual action by Robertson gave the team led by Moncho Fernández the first double-digit difference of the match (90-80) with just over three minutes to be played. Faced with this scenario, the visitors ended up lowering their arms, letting themselves go and the match closed with a clear victory for the Galician team by 101-82.
