Rafael Nadal landed yesterday at the Roland Garros facilities, his second home, the Grand Slam where he has become a legend. Rafa trained for the first time at the Philippe Chatrier in some special conditions that can be found during the tournament: indoors, with spotlights ... and with the new Wilson balls, which have already been dubbed 'anti-Nadal balls', the name says it all. They will not be the only novelties in this very different edition, which will be held four months after its original dates, in autumn instead of spring. That means cooler, which in turn translates to a lower bounce for the ball. Bad for Nadal, who raises his drive to two meters high on the backhand of his rivals. A torture. Rafa also knows how to play flatter, there are his four titles at the US Open, but with that style he makes fewer differences. This is how Mats Wilander, three times champion on the clay of Paris, explained this week in an interview with AS, which led him to conclude, along with other arguments, that "this is the year in which Nadal is the least favorite."

To make matters worse, the Spaniard arrives at the tournament with little filming, only three previous games in Rome, and a defeat against Diego Schwartzman in the quarterfinals that, surely, will have increased his insecurities. Nadal also met yesterday his thorny roadmap to add his 13th Roland Garros title, which in turn would be his twentieth Grand Slam, the same as King Roger Federer has. The story is game. The team has not smiled at the manacorense either, who would face Fabio Fognini, Alexander Zverev, Dominic Thiem or 'El Peque' Schwartzman and Novak Djokovic in the last four rounds. The picture does not look as good as other times, but we are talking about Nadal. A mythical athlete used to surpassing himself, to return victorious over and over again. Nadal always comes back.
