Muguruza-in-winner-mode

Garbiñe Muguruza improves every day in the Premier 5 in Rome. This Friday she demonstrated it with a resounding victory in two sets (6-4 and 6-1 in 82 minutes) against Johanna Konta, a player who currently has a better ranking (13th) than her (17th) and who has taken the measure in the last years. He lost against her in his first two games (Eastbourne and US Open 2015) and now the private duels are even after Garbiñe's victory at the 2019 Australian Open and this one at the Foro Italico. His great performance, especially at service and in some games to the rest, which takes him to the quarterfinals of the tournament for the third time, in which he will face Victoria Azarenka, who suffered a leg injury to Daria Kasatkina right when his match was 6-6 in the first set. The Russian twisted her ankle and fell when she went up to return a drop from her rival.

Muguruza opened the game with a double fault, his only notable error in a very well played first set, in which he did not concede Konta a single break point. And it is that he only lost six with his serve (14 at the end of the meeting). She did press the services of her rival with more intention, whose strategy was to make them open and try to lower the ball a lot to the Spanish, who had up to three break points in the sixth game. They escaped him, although he had the same exact number again to close the first set and this time he did not forgive.

Solid and in command, Garbiñe started the second set with a break that put her at 2-0 and served. With some difficulty (he saved three options from Konta for 2-1) he consolidated his advantage. Konta closed the gap and cut her opponent's 5-0 run from 4-4 in the first set. Muguruza continued to his, served wonderfully and won the next game blank to be 4-1, thrown. In fact, the 5-1 and the final 6-1 were not long in coming in an overwhelming way.
