Mir: "I prefer the pass to Rossi before that of Quartararo"

The second classified of Misano 2 describes the overtaking of the French as "more risky", but does not put it before last Sunday.

Three podiums in the last four races and a fourth in which he was out of the box. This is how Joan Mir spends it on the back of the Suzuki in his second season in MotoGP. At the Emilia Romagna GP he again left the stamp with a great second starting eleventh on the grid.

-What can you say?

-I feel very happy because we have given one hundred percent throughout the race and we have put all the cards on the table. It was a bit difficult, honestly, at the beginning, because starting so far back there were a lot of drivers out there who wanted to win the race in the first laps and it was a bit risky. When I saw that both Pecco and Maverick, Pol and Fabio were running away, I tried to focus as much as possible on reaching the head and midway through the race I started to feel good on the bike and to ride better. I was able to go up and close the distance that separated me from them. In the last laps the fight was really fun. I am very happy for this second place in this race. We really want to win, but the important thing is to score points and continue in this line of work. I am also very happy for the team.

-Could you have imagined at some point last year that you were going to get two consecutive podiums and that at this point in the championship you would be four points behind the leader?-No, the truth is that I did not expect it, but after Austria, where I was very competitive, with a podium there, I had a confidence shot. I thought that if I could have achieved that podium, I would be able to repeat it, and that is why we are achieving it. It's hard to stay consistent, but it's the goal we set for every race.

-Which overtaking is better, the one you made to Quartararo today or the one you made to Rossi last week?-(Smile). The overtaking of Fabio (Quartararo) was riskier, but I prefer Valentino (Rossi) .

-Does winning begin to obsess you?

-We have not yet achieved the first victory and it is the main objective that we set ourselves, but in the meantime the important thing is to score points. In Austria we had the opportunity to win and here what prevented us from fighting for the victory is coming from a better position on the grid. I hope that in Barcelona I can have a better classification and fight for victory there. But we are close and it is important to get the podium when you have a shot, the same as you have to do when you can win.

-Do you have the perfect package?

-We are very constant and my impression is that the Suzuki is a bike that has a very good balance and works very well on all circuits, especially on the last two we have been on. The truth is that I felt better on the bike. It is true that there was a mental click after the first podium, which is what has made me able to fight in all races. We will continue working in this regard. In the last few races we have had three podiums, but only on two different circuits. Let's see if in Barcelona we can also make another podium or we can even fight for victory.

-What do you think of the title?

-I feel that I am fighting for the championship, but I do not pay much attention to the classification, because there are many points to be distributed. It is true that we have already crossed half of the championship and it seems that the season begins now, because the first four are even. We will see if we are able to maintain that constancy.
