Kwiatkowski: "I will never forget this day, I am very grateful"

The Pole was very grateful to his team, and wanted to highlight the value of this victory in his career. "This must be celebrated," he said after his victory.

Pole Michal Kwiatkowski achieved his first victory in one of the three major races on the 18th stage of the Tour de France. The one from Ineos, an expert in one-day events, sneaked into the day's numerous getaways, and was able to eliminate rivals along with his teammate Richard Carapaz, who gave him victory. "I can't describe how grateful I am. It was a great day, I will never forget it," Kwiatkowski commented.

Champion of the world and of other great races, the Pole considers this victory to be very important. "I have had very good moments in cycling, but this is a new experience, escaping many kilometers with Carapaz, whom I thank," said the Ineos driver at the end of the day, highlighting the precaution taken. "Hirschi, who was not very willing to cooperate, went to the ground in a descent when perhaps we should not risk it. That is what we did, be careful," said Michal.

The victory is the first for Ineos on this Tour, a team that has suffered a lot during the race, especially with the injury and abandonment of Egan Bernal. "I hope he recovers soon, his abandonment was very sad. He wished us luck and we were looking for the escape and the victory for several days," said Kwiatkowski. "This has to be celebrated, we will do it tonight. Winning is a relief after many days and attempts, we have to celebrate it," declared an euphoric Pole.
