Kepa already has competition: Chelsea, one step away from signing Mendy for 28 million

The agreement between the Londoners and Rennes is practically closed. It will be the second most expensive sale of the Breton team after signing him for 4M a year ago

Chelsea has become the great shaker of the transfer market. After a sanctioned year and after having already disbursed 228 million in summer, the next to call at Stamford Bridge will be Edouard Mendy, Rennes goalkeeper and who is one step away from signing for Lampard's, as confirmed by Guardian.

The agreement between Chelsea and Rennes is complete and the Senegalese international will arrive in London for an amount that would be around 28 million, becoming the second most expensive sale in the history of the Bretons, only surpassed by the 30 of Ismaïla Sarr at Watford. Mendy, who was signed a year ago by Rennes for just 4 million, has been one of the best goalkeepers in Ligue 1 this season, being a fundamental piece for the "Rouge et Noirs" to qualify for the first time in their history for the Champions League.

The arrival of the goalkeeper at Chelsea is a "deja vu" for the "blues". In 2004, Petr Cech landed at Stamford Bridge after having had a great season at Rennes and having been one of the best goalkeepers in the European Championship. Like the Czech, Mendy becomes a starter, as it is known that Lampard does not have Kepa.
