In an interview with Le Progrès on the occasion of the launch of his first literary work, the French international confirmed that he was able to sign for Lyon in January, but that the controversy with Benzema prevented him.

"In January there were contacts with Olympique Lyonnais. Unfortunately, I was not able to sign with them because I did not want a controversy to break out around Karim Benzema, as OL was the team that saw him born.
