Diego Costa and Arias test positive

Both players took the coronavirus test on their own, before starting the preseason, and have tested positive. The rest of the squad took the test this Thursday.

Atlético announced this Thursday that two of its players have tested positive for coronavirus, Diego Costa and Arias. The team returned to work today, precisely to take the tests prior to training. However, the two of them have not come forward, as they did the test on their own and have tested positive. According to the club, both are asymptomatic and are already in quarantine and complying with health and LaLiga protocols.

The rest of the soccer players (except the international ones) and the coaches went to Cerro del Espino de Majadahonda to pass the tests, the results of which should be known this Friday, the date set to start training. That is, it cannot yet be ruled out that there are more cases in the first template.

At the beginning of August, Atlético also had the positives of Correa and Vrsaljko, who could not travel with the rest of the team to Lisbon for the Champions League. So the group was training, but fortunately there were no more infections. And earlier, in May, when the team returned to work at Cerro after confinement, it was Lodi who could not join because he had tested positive. Then it was also known that nine of his colleagues had already overcome it and had antibodies.

The footballers have enjoyed three weeks of vacation and, before returning to work, extreme precautions are taken so that no positive ones join their teammates. There are three weeks left until the League begins - in the case of Atleti - and we must work to avoid any contagion in the dressing room.
