Deceuninck points the time trial and Honoré is the leader

The Dutch cyclist took the sprint victory in the first sector of the first stage of the Italian event. This afternoon, second sector with the chrono.


The Dutch Olav Kooij (Jumbo-Visma) has been the winner of the first sector of the inaugural stage of the Coppi and Bartali Week, contested with a 97-kilometer route starting and finishing in Gatteo.

The 18-year-old rider prevailed with a time of 2h.08.16 ahead of Britain's Ethan Hayter (Ineos) and German Phil Bauhaus (Bahrain McLaren) .

But it was the Danish Mikkel Honoré who finished the day as the leader of the Coppi and Bartali Cycling Week thanks to the triumph of the Deceuninck Quick Step in the team time trial that has been contested through 13.3 kilometers in Gatteo.

Deceuninck, who prevailed with a time of 14:32 minutes, surpassed Ineos Grenadiers by 8 seconds and Bora Hansgrohe by 11, which helped Honoré to take the jersey as the new leader, with the same time as two teammates team, the British James Knox and the Portuguese Joao Almeida.

The second stage will take place this Wednesday between Riccione and Sogliano al Rubicone, of 166.5 kilometers.
