Brancou: "Debuting at the Palau is a dream come true"

The young Senegalese guard (21 years and 1.91 meters) from Barça played his first match in the Endesa League yesterday against San Pablo Burgos.

The young Senegalese Barça B player, El Hadji Omar Brancou Badio (21 years old and 1.91 meters), known to his teammates as 'Papi' will never forget the date of September 20, 2020: the day of his debut with the Barça's first team in the Endesa League against San Pablo Burgos.

He took to the court in the 15th minute of the second quarter and in his first action he scored a triple. He comments that "playing at the Palau is something that not everyone can do. It was like a dream that I have come true, but I am very clear that I have to continue training and we will see." His satisfaction was double since, "we won and I am very happy about it since it was a very difficult game and I think it should have been easier than it was," he acknowledged.

In the preseason he had already played in friendly games and tournaments and perhaps that is why he took it relatively calmly because, "I always go out on the court to defend to the fullest, which I think is what I do best and it makes me go up. If I also score, the better. " "The best thing was the congratulations of all my teammates and my family for the debut and I will not hide that that moment, although it was a pity that the Palau was without an audience, it will be something that I will always have in my memory," he concluded.

Last season, the first at the club, at Barça B of the LEB Plata he was the top scorer with a spectacular average of 13.5 points, 1.9 assists and 2.9 rebounds in 26 minutes per game, with 40% in triples. In this, he will combine LEB Plata with the first team. He has already been an absolute international with his home country, Senegal. He did it in the windows for the 2019 World Cup in China (playing four of the six games his country played), although he would not finally play the World Cup.

He trained at the Senegalese club Saltigue de Rufisque, his hometown, near Dakar. He played in all categories of the club, even as a cadet he already played, at the age of 15, in the senior team where he already stood out and that earned him being called up with the senior team. He was chosen revelation player of Senegalese basketball for the 2017-2018 season. Already in 2017 the Canarias Basketball Academy had captured it after a friend had sent my video to the Academy's coach, who visited him and decided to incorporate him.

In the 2018-2019 season, he played for the Tenerife club La Matanza, one of the subsidiaries of the Academia de la Primera Autonómica Canaria. At the end of the season he had offers even from outside Spain, he finally decided to sign, last season, with Barça.
