Bolsava surprises Riske and advances to second round

The Spanish, number 107 in the world, comes back and defeats Alison Riske, thirteenth seed. The other favorites won easily.

Aliona Bolsava is still having a good time. The 22-year-old Spaniard defeated Alison Riske in the first round in Rome, who arrived in the Italian capital as 13th seed. To do this, Bolsava knew how to suffer and come back, lifting an adverse set for a result of 5-7, 7-6 (4), 6-3 in almost three hours of the game.

To reach the final draw, Bolsava won yesterday by a double 6-2 against the Russian Kalinskaya. This Monday, she met in the first round with the American Riske, who had just been eliminated in the second round of the US Open by the Chinese Li, and in the first round of Cincinnati by Anisimova. Bolsava, also eliminated in the second round in New York by the Madison Keys, played a good game throughout the game. He let the first set escape with his serve, but he knew how to recover in the second with a magnificent tie break. Already in the final sleeve, Bolsava dominated Riske's second serve and was able to take the duel. In the second round she will fight against the Russian Anna Blinkova, also from the previous round, who beat Teichmann by a double 6-3.

Monday's day passed very quietly for the favorites in the running. All the matches, except for three, were resolved in two sets. One of them was Belgian Elise Mertens (11th), eliminated in the US Open quarterfinals by Azarenka, who this time resolved her match in just over an hour against Hsieh 6-3 and 6-1.
