ACB calendar: GBC, the first obstacle of a Madrid that wants to recover the crown

The Endesa League released the season schedule. Barça opens with San Pablo Burgos. Baskonia-Valencia, summit duel.

The Endesa League 2020-21 kicks off this Saturday the 19th with four games and 19 teams, one more than the previous year. The reason? The pandemic prevented last season from closing normally in the ACB, that is, without the two usual decreases by stopping the competition with 11 days still to be played. However, FEB went ahead with the two traditional promotions from LEB Gold, despite also not completing the schedule. Gipuzkoa and Valladolid were the winners, but only the Basques met the criteria established by the ACB.

The Association, in a general meeting, did not accept the GBC's registration, but a provisional order from a Barcelona court forced its admission into the highest category of Spanish basketball. The ACB filed an appeal on that decision and is awaiting the final ruling of the court, which could return the Donostiarras to the LEB Oro. Meanwhile, he will play in First.

Gipuzkoa will start this Saturday 19 receiving Real Madrid, which will try to recover the crown it lost in the final phase in Valencia. The duel will be in Miribilla (Bilbao) as Illunbe, its pavilion, is under construction. On Sunday 20 the day will be completed with five more games, highlighting the premiere of the new Barça by Saras Jasikevicius at the Palau Blaugrana against San Pablo Burgos. The champion, TD Systems Baskonia receives Valencia, in a duel between Euroleague teams. Coosur Betis will be the first team to rest: they will all do it twice during a season that will begin without an audience in the stands due to COVID-19.
