WRC stars meet again in Estonia

Ogier, Tanak, Neuville, Evans, Lappi and Rovanpera compete this weekend in a local test to prepare for the restart of the championship in September.

They hadn't seen each other since March. Since they had to rush out of the Rally Mexico in the face of the explosion of the coronavirus pandemic, the stars of the World Cup have not met again. It will be this weekend when Sebastien Ogier, Ott Tanak, Thierry Neuville, Elfyn Evans, Esapekka Lappi and Kalle Rovanpera will compete together again in the Rally of South Estonia, a local event in which the first swords of the World Championship leave to prepare for the expected restart of the contest.

The South Estonian Rally had a two-stage route, Saturday and Sunday, but the first was canceled due to sanitary restrictions. The departure and arrival ceremonies have also been suspended and the capacity of spectators has been limited. A whole rehearsal for the first weekend of September, the date on which the World Cup returns to action in the country that saw the birth of the current champion, Tanak, which for the first time hosts a scoring event.

The Estonian idol has already competed in a couple of tests after confinement, one in his country and one in Italy, in which Neuville was also present. Toyota squires for their part have carried out trials and tests, but have not participated in rallies, so this event will be their re-entry into the competition. Quite a coming-out for a new country on the calendar, and for the protagonists of the World Cup, who want to remove the 'rust' after so much time of inactivity before returning to the hostilities of the championship.
