Verstappen and Hulkenberg, seven tenths behind the Mercedes

Bottas was fastest ahead of Hamilton, with Red Bull, the substitute's Racing Point and Leclerc in the same second. Sainz irregular start, 14th.

It's hot at Silverstone and the tires are softer now than last week, so the circumstances have changed even in the same scenario. There will be more degradation and the good laps will come on the first try, but not the second. Although the order of the factors does not alter the product, Mercedes is a world away from the rest, rain, shine or shine. Bottas was the fastest of the morning in the first free practice with a tenth of advantage over Hamilton and seven over the rest of the mortals. Verstappen stayed in that margin and also Hulkenberg, substitute for Racing Point with a spectacular lap for someone who has been out of Formula 1 for nine months. He put six tenths to Stroll, his teammate.

It was positive to see Charles Leclerc with the Ferrari also in the same second as the lead, although at nine tenths, and Sebastian Vettel closer to his teammate, seventh. For the rest, McLaren's gray training testing last weekend's evolutions and unclear laps. Lando Norris made the 12th time of the session and Carlos Sainz, the 14th. In the afternoon, in the second free practice, more conclusions can be drawn. Robert Kubica got into the Alfa Romeo instead of Giovinazzi, although he finished second to last.
