Preview of the first stage of the Criterium del Dauphiné

The route

The cyclists will face the longest day of the Dauphiné 2020 this Wednesday with a route of 218.5 kilometers between Clermont-Ferrand and Saint-Christo-en-Jarez. The first 100 kilometers are conducive to escapes with ascents to the Côte du Château d'Auteribe (4th), the Col de Béal (2nd) and the Côte de Courreau (3rd) before reaching a more favorable area. The last 60 kilometers promise excitement and a lot of tension with the ascents to the Saint-Héand heights and the Andréi Kivilev climb before entering the final circuit with the ascents to the Côte de Leymieux and Col de la Gachet, which will crown only one kilometer from the Saint-Christo-en-Jarez finish line.

Key day for wall specialists and those general runners looking to cut time with their rivals. Names such as Gorka Izagirre, Sergio Higuita, Felix Grosschartner, Thomas de Gendt or Pierre Rolland are some of the names to consider in addition to candidates for the general classification such as Julian Alaphilippe, Alejandro Valverde, Miguel Ángel López, Egan Bernal, Chris Froome, Geraint Thomas, Thibaut Pinot, Primoz Roglic, Tom Dumoulin, Steven Kruijswijk, Romain Bardet, Tadej Pogacar, Mikel Landa, Adam Yates, Nairo Quintana or Richie Porte.
